Free VPK in Florida — Every 4-Year-Old Qualifies

Florida's Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program provides free early education for all 4-year-olds — no income requirements.

ALL Florida 4-year-olds qualify for free VPK — regardless of family income.

Your child must turn 4 by September 1 of the program year.

What Is VPK?

Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) is a free, state-funded program that prepares 4-year-olds for kindergarten. Available at both public schools and participating private providers, VPK helps children develop early literacy, math, and social skills.

VPK Readiness Rates

Each VPK provider receives a readiness rate based on how well their students perform on the Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener. This rate helps you compare program quality across providers. A higher readiness rate means more students from that program were prepared for kindergarten.

How to Enroll

  1. 1

    Get your VPK certificate

Visit your local Early Learning Coalition office or apply online. You'll need proof of Florida residency and your child's birth certificate.

  2. 2

    Choose a VPK provider

Select from participating public schools, private schools, and child care centers. Compare readiness rates to find quality programs.

  3. 3

    Enroll your child

Bring your VPK certificate to your chosen provider. Registration typically opens in spring for the following school year.
