About

Berkeley Carroll School is a coeducational PK-12 independent day school in Park Slope, Brooklyn, formed in 1982 by the merger of Berkeley Institute (founded 1886) and Carroll Street School. The Lower School (PK-4) is on Carroll Street, with Middle (5-8) and Upper (9-12) on Lincoln Place. Berkeley Carroll is known for inquiry-based and research-intensive academics — including a signature Upper School Science Research and Design (SRD) program in which students conduct multi-year original research, often with university mentors. The school awarded $10.9 million in financial aid to 24% of the student body in 2025-26.
